Carl Breeze fired a Ginetta GT4 SuperCup title warning to his championship rivals with two easy wins in the latest round of races at Thruxton.
The HHC Motorsport ace delivered two stunning drives on the Saturday to overtake previous leader and team-mate Jamie Orton at the top of the standings.
A pair of lights-to-flag victories and a clean sweep of podiums, with a third-place finish on the Sunday, saw him cruise to the top of the leaderboard.
A delighted Breeze, who had gone into the weekend some 15 points behind Orton, said: “We’re nearly a third of the way through the season and I’ve already picked up almost 100 points more than I had at the same stage last year.
“It’s good to have the points on the board and put the pressure on the drivers around me.
“I knew I was going to be up against it with my tyre-wear in the final race, where I would have been happy with a top-five finish, so to get another podium place was great.
“We test at Snetterton next and then go to Oulton Park for another two races in early June and there’s no reason why we can’t pick up another two race wins there.”
Leading the qualifying sessions, Breeze had the advantage of being the only racer on the grid to have won a SuperCup race at the high-speed Hampshire track before.
And his liking of the circuit was apparent as he enjoyed an emphatic lights-to-flag victory which saw him cross the line a huge eight seconds over Orton in second place and Will Burns in third.
Starting from pole position for the second outing, another lightning start for Breeze saw him lead into Allard for the first time – an advantage that couldn’t be broken during the ensuing 16 laps.
The Lynn driver set fastest lap times in both of his race successes – earning him an extra point for each, along with another point for topping the initial qualifying times.
For the final race of the weekend on the Sunday, the reverse grid draw saw Michael Caine promoted to pole position.
But it was Burns who took advantage of the start, demoting Caine to second and leaving Breeze in third.
In a five-way fight for the lead, both Orton and Oliphant joined in the melee, but problems for the two championship protagonists forced them into retirement.
The demise of Breeze’s two closest rivals in the title race allowed him to comfortably see out the remainder of the race in third for another crucial 26 points.
It saw him leave Thruxton with the championship lead, having pushed teammate Orton down to second by an advantage of 34 points.
