King’s Lynn Fury National League basketball team have announced their new club sponsor.
Aven Ltd are a local recruitment agency based in Lynn, who specialise in recruiting personnel into the food industry.
Giedrius Venckunas, representative of Aven Ltd, said: “Why we chose to support Fury? I see it as a great opportunity to help promote basketball in the area, and sports in general. I think it is very good to keep youngsters busy and away from mischief. Everyone needs to have a goal in their life and if sports can give it to some people, then it’s great.
“Furthermore, I’d like to contribute towards the better quality of life in the local community and I believe this is a good way to do it.”
Fury have signed 15-year-old Donatas Zakaras. Whilst Zakaras is the youngest player to have come though the Fury system in recent years, Lynn have also made two other signings with College of West Anglia student Fin Holland (17), who is twin brother to Saul, and King Edward VII Academy student Mantas Zabaliunas (16). Both have shown their quality and class in recent months in the Norfolk Leagues.
They join other recent local additions, Luke Huggins, Saul Holland, Tony Murray and Vytautas Girdzius.
Club promoter Kevin Holland said: “It’s been a few years in the making but we’re now seeing the system we have put in place reap dividends.
“Having quality players come through the Fury ranks, several of whom are regional college champions, is where we want to be. Our squad has grown in recent years with quality Europeans who have settled in the area. Having home-schooled youngsters make the grade and stepping up to play alongside the seniors in the National League is a signal to other local youngsters that playing at a national level is achievable with Lynn.”
Fury are away to London Thunder on Sunday.
Fury sign youngsters.
Donatas Zakaras was excitedly watching Fury progress to the Playoff final and while participating in the halftime shoot out could only dream of emulating his heroes. Fast forward 6 months and after showing tremendous ability in local men’s competition with regular 20 point games and dominating both u16 schools and junior competition and he will now be living that dream! Zakaras who has been training with the senior side since November has been signed to a National League contract and will make his debut as soon as clearance allows.
Zakaras “This is such an amazing feeling. I’ve been with Fury since i was 13 and it’s such an amazing club. I can’t thank Coach enough for believing in me and giving me this chance,”
Bamfield “Donatas has worked tirelessly to develop his skills and has excelled at junior level, his mind-set is exceptional for someone so young. Clearly he is one for the future and he won’t be under pressure to produce but we will give him an opportunity to play and to continue to develop. I believe he can be a fantastic player at the highest level.”
