Reece Emsley, a year 10 student at Lynn’s King Edward VII Academy, has been selected on to the British Gymnastic Tumbling Performance Pathway.
He will begin training at the British Gymnastics headquarters at Lilleshall National Centre, from April.
Lilleshall is the home of gymnastics; with the finest facilities and coaching.
‘Tier one’ training is the starting point of the journey to being selected for the national squad, with a chance to perform at a world class level and represent Great Britain.
Emsley started gymnastics training at the age of eight and has competed in many regional and national acrobatics competitions, but says he made the decision in 2014 – after competing at the National Acrobatics competition – to concentrate on tumbling as his specialism.
Jody Walters, head of PE at KES Academy, said: “As a school we are extremely proud of Reece and his selection into the performance pathway.
“We know he will progress even further and hope to see him on the podium one day! Reece is a superb role model within KES, and I hope this inspires others that if you work hard you will be recognised and rewarded.”
Emsley said: “I don’t really know anyone else who attends Lilleshall but I am looking forward to getting started; it’s a great opportunity. I have three upcoming training weekends where I will stay over in Lilleshall for the Saturday so I can continue training on the Sunday.”
His mother Diane Williamson said: “Myself and the rest of the family are all so proud of Reece and his ambition and determination.
“I’m so proud to call him my son. The training camp is going to be a major stepping stone to him hopefully achieving his dream one day; I am so excited for him.”
Emsley has competed at international level previously, coming fourth in Portugal last year representing Great Britain at the 10th Loulé Cup, but says this is the next big step in his sporting career.
KES Academy will be sponsoring Reece’s training; but is looking for sponsors for his kit and competition fees. Please contact the academy on 01553 773606 or contact firstname.lastname@example.org
