Lynn’s King Edward VII Academy (KES) Community Tennis Centre took three under 8 teams to the Winter Team Tennis tournament at Easton (Norwich) on Saturday, where 24 teams competed in three divisions on Mini Red courts.
These are the strongest players in this age group in Norfolk and Suffolk with many county players on show. KES Eagles were again in the top division and the team of Ikenna Okossi, Elijah Cabales, Camilo Cervantes and George Dickson produced some superb tennis throughout the day with everyone contributing to the overall score. They finished fourth overall in a group of eight, just missing the top three spots by one win. It was very close indeed with Easton taking the top spot.
KES Falcons and KES Kestrels were both in Division Three, again with very strong opposition. The Kestrels with Alfie Waite, Harry Waite, Heidi Grisna and Amelia Kruszewska, who was playing her first team tournament, all managed to gain at least one win each and finished in a very credible sixth position.
KES Falcons of Tom Lloyd, Oliver Hooker, Jamie Gilbert and Adi Nambiar dominated the league but were just pipped in the final match by Culford to finish in the silver medal spot. KES coaches Ashley Swift and Jeremy Hodges were really impressed with not only the standard of play but also the sportsmanship shown by all the youngsters.
KES are currently looking for sponsorship for all their junior teams. If anyone would like to be involved please call Jeremy on 01553 692949 or e-mail email@example.com.
There will be an indoor tennis camp for primary school children this half term running at KES Sports Hall from Tuesday until Thursday. All details can be found on the website www.kesctc.co.uk or ring the Tennis Centre.
