Pelicans 2 Harleston 2

Pelicans U14 Girls finished third in the East Midlands League 4 on Sunday, narrowly missing out on progressing to the regional finals, behind leaders Cambridge City and Harleston, second placed in the league.

There was 100 per cent team effort from the girls, who have improved immensely throughout the season, however the four-goal margin needed was a ‘bridge too far’.

The visitors took the lead on seven minutes. Undeterred, Pelicans continued to attack. They came close on several occasions before Beales equalised on 20 minutes.

At the start of the second half Pelicans again pushed forward, creating chances against a strong Harleston defence which thwarted them.

Early in the second half Carrier gave Pelicans the lead.

Pelicans continued to battle hard but a determined Harleston continued the fight, knowing a draw was good enough for them to progress.

Harleston equalised with 13 minutes to go and although Pelicans made chances the score finished 2-2.

Goals: Poppy Beales / Grace Carrier.

PoM: Amber Scott.
