King’s Lynn Bowls Club were denied a place in the final of the Hansells Cup – the last trophy of the men’s Norfolk Bowls Association season.
They were edged out at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Wymondham Dell B.
In the competition sponsored by Hansells Solicitors and Financial Advisers, the Division Two West champions triumphed on one rink but lost the other two to their South Division counterparts to bow out by 14 shots, 62-48.
In the final, Wymondham Dell B, playing on their home green, beat East Division Two champions Bradwell by five shots.
Lynn were presented with their semi-finalists award by Hansells’ marketing executive Dawn Towns.
Team captain David Camp said: “We had two substitutes today, but bowled well. The green was very good and we all enjoyed the excellent facilities at Wymondham Dell.”
Hansells consultant Jennifer George commended all four teams on the standard of bowls played throughout the day.
“We’ve been treated to a display of bowls of the highest quality on a gloriously sunny day,” she said. “I also enjoyed the friendly spirit that always characterises Norfolk Bowls Association games.... something that has always impressed us at Hansells throughout the 12 years we have sponsored the association.”
Jennifer George also praised Wymondham Dell for the superb hospitality the club had once again provided for the occasion.
Brian Taylor, president of the men’s section of the Norfolk Bowls Association said the day had been enjoyable – and the four teams had produced some good bowling.
“The best team won. Thank you very much to Hansells Solicitors and Financial Advisers for their continued support for Norfolk bowls,” he said.
