West Norfolk Ladies 85 Sleaford 0
Following West Norfolk Ladies’ victory at St Neots last week, nerves were high for the first home game since before Christmas.
West had previously played Sleaford and had returned with a 59-0 victory. Sleaford had since produced a convincing winning streak. Sleaford kicked off into the wind in the first half. Nerves were immediately settled by Mary Hegarty catching the first ball of the match and running straight to the try line to score.
Therein West dominated and scored a further 14 tries, finishing the match in a similar way to as it started with Georgie Lingham receiving Sleaford’s kick off and running the length of the pitch to score the final try.
The forwards led from the front, setting up the foundations and breaking through the defensive line in order to allow the backs to run.
Support play was outstanding with a particular mention going to Sian Marie, who was awarded forward of the match on her debut, setting up and carrying the ball through Sleaford’s front row outstandingly.
Amber Wadlow scored once, vice-captain Lingham five times, captain Kathryn Sharp twice, Zoe Sharp, back of the match, four times, Becca Clunan once and Amy Lucas once. Five of the tries were converted.
West’s next fixture is away against Norwich Medics on Sunday with a 2pm kick off.
Training is on Wednesday nights from 7pm at the club on Gatehouse Lane, North Wootton. All ages from 12.
l Next league game for the men’s 1sts is tomorrow away to Basildon.
