West Norfolk AC sent a team of six of its best young athletes to Lee Valley for the Eastern Region Indoor Championships.
Lucy Koenigsberger (under 15) led the way with a silver medal and a fine personal best of 10.43m in the shot, extending her own club record.
It was an excellent performance in a large and high quality field with the winner breaking the Eastern Region all time record. Matthew Bailey (20) competing in the Senior event also won silver in the 60m with a great run of 7.43 seconds. In his favoured event the 60m hurdles, Bailey had another good run winning bronze in 8.84.
Charlie Williams (under 15) also won a fine bronze in the the shot, throwing 10.71m. Charlie’s brother Alfie , a year younger but also an U15 athlete, was placed just behind in fourth place with a fantastic throw of 10.51m, a huge PB.
Charlie also competed in the 60m sprint, qualifying for the final in third place in his heat. Williams was fifth in the final in 7.86. Hannah Greenhalgh continued her recovery from injury with good runs in the 60m hurdles and sprint, both just outside her PB.
In a very high quality 60m hurdles for U20 men, James Greenhalgh can count himself a little unlucky, finishing just outside the medals in fourth place in a very close race. Greenhalgh ran a fine PB and new club record of 8.66 seconds, making him the fastest 60m hurdler at any age group in West Norfolk ACs history. Training partner Nathan Protheroe from Dereham Runners AC qualified for the 60m hurdles final where he ran a new PB of 8.76 for sixth.
Elsewhere fine weather greeted a number of West Norfolk AC athletes who competed in the latest Shouldham Cross Country event, organised by Ryston Runners AC.
The seniors competed over 9km with Ben Collison running well for eighth place in 32.08. Veterans Neil Watson (37.00) and Martin Koenigsberger (36.22) will also be pleased with their efforts.
U13 girls Lama Hayes (14.52) and Elizabeth Wood (15.28) placed well whilst U9 boy Oakley Took performed excellently for 4th in 3.11.
