Swaffham under 16 12

West Norfolk scored 12 tries in a resounding victory over Swaffham on Sunday.

Ten West players bagged tries, with a hat-trick from Olly Mann, along with seven conversions.

Mann’s contribution to the final scoreline was 29 points.

The triumph at Gatehouse Lane extended a string of home wins following victories over North Walsham and Spalding in recent weeks.

The final scoreline doesn’t reflect Swaffham’s fighting spirit. The visitors scrapped hard and were rewarded with tries in each half before they finally capitulated.

Mann’s third try was the pick of the bunch, as James Archdale and Anthony Nwaneri combined to turn defence into attack, putting him in the clear to score.

Sam Mount’s tireless running saw him sprint clear from inside his own half for another memorable try.

Nick Peters set up a couple of tries, one with a powerful break and another after enterprising work at a ruck.

Jack Wicks put in a tidy performance at scrum-half, while backs Rhett Lewis and Jordan Dowen returned Swaffham kicks to maintain pressure.

Tom Watson was solid at hooker.

The tone was set early when prop Owen Smith galloped over in the corner.

West winger Adam Edris was denied a certain try after he was prevented from grounding the ball.

Archdale grabbed the second and Mann added two before more neat inter-play between Archdale and Nwaneri set up Henry Lankfer to charge under the posts.

After the break, West continued where they left off.

Nwaneri scored after a burst from inside his own half, and number eight Gabriel Parslew also crossed the line after quick work from Will Penston.

Hard-working Thomas Playford scored after good approach play by Ben Buck, and Dowen capped a fine display with a try.

As West piled forward, Will Narramore went over in the corner to complete the scoring.
