Ford 3 Pelicans Men 1st XI 3

Pelicans travelled without key players Chris Page and Gav Johnstone, however their effort and teamwork was outstanding as they deservedly left Essex with a draw on Saturday.

Playing at Old Loughtonians on the surf turf used in the Olympics, Ford (a team of Sikhs) took a deserved lead after a shot deflected off the foot of Kerry before bobbling past the stranded Aldous.

Pelicans were level almost instantly: after good build up play involving Simons and Kerry, a battling Dowers fought through two challenges before finishing well.

Both teams had chances but the home team keeper and especially Aldous were in superb form. However he was unable to prevent Ford scoring with a neat deflection.

Just before half-time Kerry with a bit of magic hit a long diagonal pass which picked out Simons who deflected in an equaliser.

In the second half for the first time Pelicans took the lead following a long corner from Simons who found Lankfer who lashed home an unstoppable strike off the underside of the bar.

Pelicans once again fell asleep at the back. A deflected shot fell into the path of the Ford striker who couldn’t miss.

Pelicans entertain Crostyx tomorrow looking for that elusive first home victory of the season.
