Crostyx Men 3

Pelicans Men 1st 1

Pelicans travelled to the Olympic Park to play Crostyx on Saturday and despite the superb facilities and surreal experience unfortunately they were on the wrong end of the result and didn’t meet their own high standards.

Finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time was a fair score line as they really didn’t get going in the opening 35 minutes.

Simons and Lankfer worked tirelessly up front and did win short corners which were well dealt with.

The midfield of Frost, Picton, Sheerin, Henry, Walpole and Sheerin were forced to work incredibly hard as Crostyx worked the ball around very well which also gave Major, Page and Allsop plenty to think about at the back, as it did Aldous who was kept busy in goal.

The second half started badly for Pelicans as Crostyx found themselves 3-0 up early on but Pelicans did come back into the game and pushed forward looking for a way back into the match.

Page had chances from penalty corners and the front two continued to work well together and did cause the home team some problems at the back.

They did pull one back when Simons received a pass from Henry out wide. He in turn found Johnstone in the D who struck his shot right into the corner.

Despite finding a way back into the game and continuing to cause problems, Pelicans did continue to present chances at the back and were fortunate not to concede more late on.

A day to forget for promotion chasing Pelicans who entertain Chelmsford tomorrow at Lynnsport.
