Pelicans Men 1st XI 2
Bishop’s Stortford 1
Pelicans made it home wins back-to-back although again it wasn’t a clinical display and they had their goalkeeper Paul Aldous to thank in some late drama at Lynnsport.
Pelicans started slowly as they tried to get to grips with the visitors’ movement off the ball and found themselves 1-0 down early on the breakaway.
Pelicans started to look more threatening and it was thanks to some skilful play from Johnstone, Kerry, Walpole and Frost in midfield, they gave chances to Lankfer and Widdowson up front. The latter was the man to equalise when his shot from the top of the circle seemed to go right through the goalkeeper’s legs.
The score remained 1-1 at half-time although Major, Dowers, Allsop, Page and Hall at one stage or another during the half had to be aware on more than one occasion with some superb and sometimes desperate defending.
The second half followed the same pattern as both teams pushed for a goal.
Midway through the second half Page stepped up to drag flick a penalty corner past the Stortford keeper.
With less than two minutes left, Aldous was adjudged to have denied a goal scoring opportunity illegally by the umpire, despite protests from Pelicans who clearly felt there was an infringement in the build up. Aldous however dived full length to his right and pulled off a superb save to keep the points in a game the hosts just about shaded.
Pelicans travel to Bourne Deeping tomorrow looking to make it three wins on the spin.

Pelicans Development XI 3 Dereham 1
Pelicans started the game on Sunday in attacking style with Ellie Burt and Sophia Bassett passing the ball through the Dereham midfield.
After just two minutes a fine pass from Burt found Ella Scott who fired the ball home.
Mikayla Glover made a brilliant double save to keep Pelicans ahead. In the 28th minute Scott got her second goal giving Pelicans a comfortable advantage at half-time.
Dereham fought back early in the second half, scoring from a penalty corner, and again Glover displayed some inspired goalkeeping.
Amy Thompson and Holly Jillings won several penalty corners. Scott put the result beyond doubt with a well-taken goal in the 60th minute.
PoM: Mikayla Glover.
