Ryston Runners member Gaye Clarke took silver in the British Masters Athletics Federation’s W55 Pentathlon Championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre’s indoor stadium.

In the more clement environment of the indoor stadium, as opposed to the cold weekend weather, Dan Yellop, in his first Masters Indoors Championships, took gold in the EVAC and South of England Masters Championships in the 60m and 200m.

He managed to clock 7.53 and 24.33 seconds respectively.

At the other end of the spectrum, the vastly experienced Paul Oakes, in his first championships as a member of Ryston Runners AC, picked up gold in the M60 Long Jump (EVAC and SoE) with 4m 33, and silver in both the Shot Putt (10m 88) and 60m (9.37), the latter event being his first outing in this event in eight years.

With Peter Duhig running the EVAC competition table and Cath Duhig working as track judge, Ryston was well represented, for a small club, at this event.

l Ryston’s Kate Willis and Charlie Wakefield have qualified for the English Schools Cross Country Championships to be held at Woollaton Park, Notts on March 5.

Both Kate and Charlie are at the bottom end of their age groups, running against athletes a year older than them.

Despite this, Kate (Wells) made the top eight Norfolk girls with a sixth and an eighth place result for Norfolk in the last two qualifying races.

Charlie (Culford Prep) managed to place second for Suffolk schools in both his qualifying races.

Both are looking forward to competing against the very best in England.

An additional result from the Ryston Runners XCGP last week: Stewart Robins was second place in the M45 category. Robins has made a fantastic recovery from back surgery last year and is rapidly getting back into form.

I knew I’d forget something else.... In the Valentines 10K second claim member Danny Rock recorded a PB of 34:47 , placing fourth.

I can confirm Dan Yellop’s time of 24.33 in the 200m M35 EVAC indoor championship on Sunday.

I am still awaiting confirmation of Gaye Clarke’s points total in the BMAF Pentathlon.
