Last weekend several Ryston Runners juniors took part in the Anglian Schools Cross Country Championships.
Charlie Wakefield ran a very good race to finish sixth in the U13 Boys’ race, resulting in qualification to the English Schools Championships in Nottingham tomorrow (Saturday).
Also in this race were Bailey Took (22nd), Mackenzie Pilkington (25th). Kate Willis (U13) was also selected for English Schools through her performances this year.
Annie Rooks finished ninth in the Under 17 Girls’ race, and Aylisha Cain placed 26th.
Just a week after discovering he is currently the second ranked GB M60 over 10 miles this year, Ryston Runner Pete Johnson has received the accolade of being EVAC (Eastern Veterans AC) Road Runner of the Year.
Of 69 athletes who took part in at least one of the qualifying events (5 miles, 10K, 10 miles) and 12 who completed two, Johnson recorded an Age Graded aggregate score of 86.2 per cent, almost seven per cent clear of the second placed athlete.
A total of five Ryston members placed in the top 12, with Matt Pyatt (M35) fourth, Jeff Reed (M70) ninth, Carl Manning ( M55) 10th, and Wendy Fisher (W50) 11th.
