The fifth race in the popular Cross Country Grand Prix Series featured the ‘long’ course over 9K for senior Ryston Runners AC athletes.
A few fell foul of some navigational mishaps, but the majority successfully negotiated the forest trails in Shouldham Warren and there were some PBs recorded.
Among the PBs were Nic Bensley when winning the M45 category, and Karen Wood, second 50.
Category honours also went to Chris Balmer (1st Senior Man), Marcus Hawkins (1st M40), Martin Ive (3rd M45), Tony Savage (2nd M50), Kevin Howlett and Martin Blackburn (1st & 3rd M55), Marie French and Heather Beattie (1st & 2nd SW), Emma Thompson (3rd W35), Karen Smith and Helen Reed (1st & 3rd W45) and Maureen Wolfe and Liz Blakie, who cleaned up first and second W55 spots.
A similar 1-3 was achieved by Annie Rooks and Aylisha Cain in the U17 Girls’ race, while Mia Moore and Bailey Took bagged third places in U11G and U13B respectively.

n On the roads a small Ryston contingent ran at the Valentine 10K organised by Norfolk Gazelles and incorporating the Norfolk County 10K Championships.
The line up included Matt Pyatt, whose clearance to rejoin Ryston is due on March 1, and recorded 33:21 for sixth overall, and Pete Johnson, a recently cleared transferee whose time of 39:44 saw him place second in M60.
Pete was just behind Martin Sheldrick, who reportedly found him very difficult to shake off, which helped him to 39:22 and bronze in the M45 age group.
Other new-ish names to feature were: Danny Rock (25th- 37:04), Darren Easter (84th -41:21), Francesca Hall (103/7thSW - 43:13), and Graham Leeson (130th - 44:58). Completing the Ryston results were winner of the club’s “Best Newcomer” award for 2014 Barry Smith, 135th/20thM45 in 45:26 and Jo Brooks 345th in 57:27, with over 100 other competitors behind her.
