Swaffham CC spurred on by new sponsor

Swaffham CC travelled to Acle in adverse weather conditions and came away with a crucial 23 points which kept them firmly in the Dipple & Conway Norfolk Cricket Alliance Division Three hunt.

With a delayed start due to the rain, once the covers were removed and a couple of leaf blowers had been used to dry the pitch out, a reduced 35-over match ensued.

Under bowler-friendly conditions and a strong fielding performance, Acle took regular wickets throughout the Swaffham innings. Alec Payne started with a measured innings, but as the wickets fell he upped the run rate and was finally caught on 53 off 36 balls.

A last wicket partnership gave Swaffham a total to defend of 153. Jasper Payne broke into Acle’s top order with the new ball, taking three wickets.

Bowling with guile and experience, Matthew Brockman-Smith then proceeded to go through the Acle middle order, finishing on five wickets for 14 runs and Acle being eventually bowled out for 61.

Swaffham would like thank local scaffolding company Access Management Solutions for their mid-season shirt sponsor deal as they push for promotion.
