Downham travelled to Cromer on Saturday and continued their run of good form which has propelled them up the Dipple & Conway Norfolk Alliance Premier in recent weeks.
After losing the toss and being asked to bowl, Ian Harrison took three early wickets in a ten over spell of bowling which was both accurate and threatening.
Harrison’s figures of 10 overs, 3 for 13, coupled with the brilliant run out of Charlwood by Yates left Cromer reeling at 37 for 4 after 17 overs.
From then on it was about rebuilding for Cromer, Turner (101) and Charadza (101 not out) played brilliantly to put on 183 for the fifth wicket and take the score past 200.
Charadza finished the innings with two sixes to reach a fantastic century which had a celebration to match, to which both teams could only smile and applaud. Cromer finished on 247 for 5 – a par score on a small ground.
Downham came out to bat and after a positive start lost two quick wickets and at 31 for 2, Yates (38) and Kelly (27) had to rebuild. When Kelly was caught behind off the bowling of Warnes, Gould and Yates quickly followed, it was left to Addam Todd to step up and play one of his best innings in a Downham shirt.
Todd played fluently from the word go and was ably supported by Chris Sharp who made a brilliant 33 under pressure. As ever, Sharp was tough to bowl at with his unorthodox technique and rotation of the strike. Todd made 86 not out off just 69 balls to see Town across the finishing line with the nerveless Dave Grady (1*) at his side at the end.
The win moves Downham up to joint third in the league with the local derby at home to North Runcton tomorrow. Town will be looking for another win.
