Wereham ace Ewing’s pigeon double

A great weekend for Shaun Ewing (pictured) who won the final old bird race from Vire in France and then won the Wereham club’s first three cards in their first young bird race, and also topped the Fens Fed, writes Kevin Mason.

Wereham had six members send 65 birds to Bovingdon, in the club’s first young bird race. Ewing had a very good race taking the first three, his winning Janssen taking 1 hr 34 mins to fly 71 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3 Shaun Ewing, 1329, 1323, 1301; 4, 6 Jim & Wendy Cook & Paul King, 1264, 1251; 5 Allan Coulson, 1260.

Wereham’s second race was from Vire, when six lofts sent 61 birds. This turned out to be very hard for the birds with only a handful making it home on the day. Ewing made it a double when his Roland Janssen took 6hrs 54 mins to fly 265 miles.

Result: 1, 4, 6 Shaun Ewing, 1127, 772, 660; 2, 3 Steve Ward, 902, 798; 5 Kevin & Diane Woolston, 748.

New Lynn RPC had six members send 147 birds from Bovingdon. Chris and Leighton Boughen had their youngsters on top form taking three of the club’s first four cards. Their winner was a Marcel Sangers x Eric Limburg. The Mannings won all pools and nom.
