Wet weather conditions failed to dampen the spirits of the athletes from West Norfolk AC who had qualified to compete for Norfolk last Saturday at the Anglian Schools Athletics Championships 2015.
This event was hosted by Cambridgeshire and held at Peterborbough. With persistent rain some events proved challenging but true team camaraderie shone through.
Despite a delay for fine rain, Abigail Rice held her nerve and ran a very impressive 100m with a fourth place finish and time of 13.5. Rice joined the girls relay, running a powerful last leg to bring the team home in second spot.
Lucy Koenigsberger threw a determined hammer during drizzle, with a fine 33.13.
As the rain continued to come down, Emma Dewdney had a valiant pole vault with a height of 2.05m, just 1cm off her best and setting her up for a fantastic third place.
For the boys Mason Higby competed in discus. Despite slippery conditions, he continued to compose himself and managed a very respectable distance of 20.73m.
Nathan Smalls was competing in long jump, finishing in 7th place and achieved a well executed distance of 4.89m. Charlie Williams powered through a tough 300m race to finish in fifth place with a PB of 39.95. This gave him a new club record. In the relay he ran a strong first leg and equalled the girls with a second place finish.
Megan Rushmore and Jude Faulkner, who had qualified to compete at this event, were unable to join the team due to school exams.
The club trains at Lynnsport on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
