In an exciting summer for West Norfolk RUFC the senior players have been preparing for the upcoming season.
It’s evident that West, who narrowly missed out on promotion for the second year in a row last season, have much to look forward to under the new management team, headed up by recently appointed club captain Jamie Williamson.
Following a thrilling open trial match last Thursday against RAF Marham, on Saturday two mixed sides played home and away. One squad entertained Sleaford, whilst the second went to local rivals Swaffham. Both squads featured a blend of experience, youth, old and new players.
“The matches this week have been extremely beneficial before the league starts. We have a number of new recruits. Although difficult to single anyone out, I’ve been impressed by Colts Freddie Playford and John Nwaneri,” said Williamson.
Tomorrow sees West travel to Sudbury in their last warm up match. Their hosts were promoted as London North East 3 champions, while West finished third. The new campaign starts with West hosting promoted Eastern Counties One champions Southwold in a fortnight.
Williamson added: “Sudbury will be a challenge for us but playing against a side of that quality presents an excellent opportunity for some final preparation before the league kicks off again.”
