Four West Norfolk athletes will compete for Norfolk Schools at the All English Schools finals, at Gateshead, today and tomorrow.
Hannah Brown, taking part in her second finals after her debut in 2014, will be running in the senior girls’ 400 metres.
Lucy Koenigsberger, who competed last year, will hope to improve on her 13th place in the junior girls’ hammer.
Two youngsters will be making their debuts at the prestigious finals, which have been televised by Sky Sports in the past.
Rachel Chapman will make her bow in the junior girls’ 75 metre hurdles while Mason Higby will compete in the junior boys’ discus.
All four athletes thank their coaches and clubs for all the help and assistance so far this season.
Meanwhile, West Norfolk Athletics Club’s Luke Batterham won quadruple gold at the English Federation of Disability Sport championships.
Batterham won a fantastic 100m/200m double with the 200m in a PB time of 25.3.
He went on to run for the Eastern team in both 400m and 100m relay, again striking gold twice.
Four athletes were also in action for Team Norfolk in the Youth Development League during a long day in Crawley.
Zara Koenigsberger made her debut in this competition with excellent efforts in both the shot (7.80m) and discus.
Rahim Benson scored well with second in the 100m hurdles A string (15.2) and also second in the 400m hurdles A string.
Jude Falkner was placed third in the A hammer with 37.17 and picked up decent points in the javelin.
Emma Dewdney also scored well, filling in events including long and triple jump.
But she saved her best for third in the A string pole vault (1.85m). Benson also ran a leg of the 4x100m relay, finishing second.
This was a great team effort, finishing second to the home club.
This all but promotes Team Norfolk into the Elite Premier League One next season.
This is providing they perform reasonably at the home match in Norwich later this month.
