Two West Norfolk AC runners took part in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday.
Sean Chambers (pictured) and James Howard were both looking to run faster than their previous marathons.
Howard was on the ‘red’ start and Chambers was on the ‘blue’. Both covered the first 5K in 21 minutes 12 seconds.
But another runner dropped a bottle of water right in front of Chambers and he fell, twisting his ankle. Chambers picked himself up and decided to run as far as he could while Howard pushed on.
By halfway Chambers was only 10 seconds behind James. Then just after the Tower of London Howard started to slow.
By the finish Howard had run 3hours 10 minutes and 8 seconds, just outside his best, but Chambers had smashed his previous best by 40 minutes with a time of 3hr 5min and 9sec. A big well done to both runners who will be looking forward to a re-run next year.
Also competing was Neil Watson, a member of the club’s Thursday night training group who ran 3hr 33min and 31sec which was 23 minutes quicker than his previous best.
