West Norfolk Under 16s beat North Walsham 45-7 on Sunday, extending a run of good results at home.

In blustery conditions at Gatehouse Lane, North Wootton, Wests blew away the visitors with seven tries, including five in a whirlwind second-half display.

Rampaging centre Anthony Nwaneri and scrum half Jack Wicks each scored two tries, but this was an impressive team performance. The forwards were dominant, and the backs were rarely troubled.

The hosts excelled at disrupting North Walsham’s possession. Olly Hayward was superb at the breakdown, winning a couple of turnovers, while Sam Mount stole a lineout that led to the opening try.

When the visitors threatened, Wests were formidable in defence. Owen Smith, Harry Knight and Henry Lankfer were solid in the scrum and formed a platform for numerous attacks. Will Penston and Thomas Playford tackled strongly.

Despite the gusting wind, Wests strung together some slick passing moves that led to a rash of line breaks from Nwaneri, James Archdale and Sam Thorpe, in particular. In the back line, Jordan Dowen, Adam Edris and Rhett Lewis looked dangerous when they found space.

Wicks got the first try and Nwaneri added the second after great approach work by Nick Peters and Ben Buck.

Wests led 10-7 at half-time, but the floodgates opened after the break. Hayward reacted quickest at a lineout to go under the posts, and Wicks added a fourth after good work by No. 8 Gabriel Parslew.

Nwaneri bagged his second after making a break from inside his own half and Archdale capped a good performance by running in the sixth. Parslew completed the scoring after peeling off the back of the scrum to cross the line.

The victory follows a hard-fought win over Spalding a week earlier.
