Sunday’s festival at North Walsham resulted in West Norfolk Under 10’s being drawn in a pool with Diss, North Walsham, Lakenham Hewitt and Southwold.
The first game with Diss was a very tight encounter with both sides throwing themselves into the tackles. A single try scored by Jake Bailey was enough for West to open with a 5-0 victory.
The next game against the hosts was a more open affair as West proved too strong running out a 30-10 victory following a Bailey hat-trick and tries from Jamie Hickling (2) and Thomas Norman.
A comfortable 35-10 victory over an under strength Lakenham side and a loss to Southwold resulted in West reaching the plate final against Wymondham, their first final in two seasons.
West began on the front foot as Jack Zebedee and Jamie combined to open the scoring with Jack Watson crossing the line early on. Superb tackling from Watson and Matthew Lloyd helped keep West in front.
The pressure final told with Wymondham scoring as the first half came to a close.
A second half injury to the one of the opponents forced a brief break in play.
Zebedee found a gap to score directly from the restart and gain a slender lead.
Keaton, Daniel, Josh and Euan all threw themselves into the tackle to protect the lead. As West kept the ball in the middle Wymondham tried to steal the ball and Bailey broke from the pack to use his pace to run round the last line of defence to score in the corner.
Wymondham replied too late as the referee blew the final whistle to seal a superb 15-10 victory.
