Ladies from Alive Lynnsport’s Women’s Wednesday played their annual summer tournament organised by Janis Baker.

All 16 names were put into a hat to draw for partners. The eight pairs were then split into two groups of four, with everyone playing each other in their respective groups.

Each match played was the first to five games against each pair, with normal tennis scoring, but at deuce it was a sudden death game point. Some 115 games were played in total.

Group one saw Jane Hindry and Jill Biggs as winners with Gillian Gerrard and Angela Jones as runners-up.

In group two, the top pair was Julie Jones and June Taylor with Teresa Taylor and Ros Metcalf runners-up.

Taylor and Metcalf won the third place play-off, while the play-off for the top two places turned out to be one of the most exciting games of the day. At four games all, Hindry and Biggs took a 30-love lead against Jones and Taylor with some long rallies, even on the hottest day of the year!

But the latter pegged them back to deuce, and with the sudden death point played, Biggs held her nerve to serve the winning point! Alive Lynnsport provided the trophies.

The Women’s Wednesday sessions are open to the community, with various sports on offer, including short tennis, badminton, table tennis and aerobics, with refreshments included in the price, upstairs in the bar area.
