Wormegay fancier Mellett takes top two pigeon spots

Wereham had eight members send 125 birds to Poole, writes Kevin Mason.

Wormegay’s Billy Mellett won the club’s top two spots. Billy’s winner was a Janssen, Van Den Bosche x Flor Engels and took 3hrs 20 mins to fly 171 miles.

Result: 1, 2 Billy Mellett, 1501, 1472; 3 Steve Ward, 1465; 4, 6 Kevin & Diane Woolston, 1460, 1439; 5 Rodney Cochrane, 1454.

New Lynn RPC raced from Poole when 13 members sent 139 birds and liberated in a light west wind at 0700hrs.

A fourth win for North Lynn’s Manning Brothers when their yearling took 3hrs 25 mins to fly the 175 miles. First pools & nom won by the Manning boys, 2nd pools won by Kim and Bernie.

Result: 1 Manning Brothers & Son, 1502; 2, 3, 5 Kim Peacock & Bernie Byrne, 1487, 1463, 1458; 4 Eddie, Jim & Guy Perry, 1459; 6 Pete and Dave Ellwood, 1446.

Gaywood S.R.F.C. also raced from Poole when five lofts sent 67 birds. Wretton’s Ogdens have been dominating the results these last few weeks, and once again took the first three positions with their Busschaerts. Their first two birds took 3hrs 11 mins to fly 167 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3, 5 Rod and Gloria Ogden & Sons, 1531, 1530, 1485, 1451; 4 George & Graham Cook & G/Son, 1478; 6 Nev, Trevor and Linda Godfrey, 1445.

Clenchwarton (south) had six members send 65 birds to Poole. Dale and Neil Dennis had the best bird in the club and took 3hrs 23 mins to fly 173 miles.

Result: 1, 4, 5 Dale and Neil Dennis, 1497, 1429 (two birds); 2, 6 Peter and Dave Ellwood, 1445, 1387; 3 Ken Jolly, 1439.

Clenchwarton (north) raced from Whitley Bay when 55 birds were sent by six lofts. The club’s top north roaders, Wally and Sheila Collins, once again had their birds on top form taking the first three. This was a hard race.
