Three Swaffham Kickboxing Academy students competed at Debenham for the Suffolk Showdown 4 held by CKA.
Julian Zalums, who had challenged the hosts’ Lee Parrot for a shot at the East area 90kg title, trained very hard for this, getting down to his lowest weight ever.
His coaches also completely changed his style of fighting from his previous few bouts, which confused not only his opponent but the cornermen and coach. Parrot was knocked down once in the first round, twice in the second and stumbled early in the third, so his corner threw in the towel. Zalums won the first belt held by a student from SKA.
Neil Powley agreed to a rematch for another charity bout with Tony Browes. It was a close fight but Powley got the win he had trained hard for.
Josh Saddler, against talented and experienced Lewis Dunnet, fought well connecting several good punches and kicks, but Dunnet’s experience got him the win.
A thank you to all supporters; and to Necton Windmill for their continued support.
