Dersingham, Docking, Brancaster, Heacham Infant, Hunstanton, Ingoldisthorpe and Snettisham schools participate in Paris Olympic-themed sports festival
The cluster of Smithton Primary Schools organised and ran a fantastic sports festival for KS1 students hosted at Heacham Junior School.
The event was organised by a team of sports council reps from Years 2 to 6 under the guidance of Tracy Bower.
Since last November, the reps have had Zoom meetings to discuss the planning of the festival and the recruitment of event sponsors.
The festival had a Paris Olympics theme and aimed to inspire the KS1 students who attended to participate in more sports locally. Each school group represented a country on the day.
Schools taking part were Dersingham, Docking, Brancaster, Heacham Infant, Heacham Junior, Hunstanton, Ingoldisthorpe and Snettisham and the Olympic sports led by the leaders were hockey, rugby, shooting (Nerf), tennis, golf, athletics, football, volleyball and badminton.
Some schools entered more than one team.
A total of 185 students were involved in the event and the following local companies provided support through sponsorship:
Sponsors were: Proctor Roofing, Bookers, Sealskinz, The Norfolk Agents, Hunstanton Town Council, Snettisham Parish Council, Marks and Spencer, Adrian Flux, Alive West Norfolk, Fishers and Hughes Electrical.
This ensured the equipment could be provided and prizes awarded at the end of the festival.
Hunstanton Town Council provided funding for purchasing croissants from The Krusty Loaf Bakery for everyone to reinforce the French theme to the day and Double G clothing sponsored T-shirts for all of the Sports Council reps and sports leaders on the day.
The event was a resounding success and served to emphasise the target of “local schools developing local leaders to promote local healthy lifestyles.
