Swaffham Town start 2020 on a winning note in Thurlow Nunn Premier Division
Swaffham Town got the New Year off to a winning start with a well-deserved three points against Gorleston Town on Saturday.
The Greens took the lead against the run of play in the 24th minute at Emerald Park.
But Alex Vincent's side redressed the balance 13 minutes later, Emre Upston delivering a quality free-kick into the Gorleston box before Matthew Prudence headed home into the top right-hand corner.
Swaffham added a second goal five minutes into the second half, Prudence supplying a pin-point free-kick from the left, which was met by the head of Ryan Pearson from eight yards out.
The Pedlars, who are without a game this weekend, put the game to bed on the hour, Upston supplying the assist from the left touchline, which was converted by Tommy Hunt six yards out.
High-flying Downham Town left it late to claim a share of the spoils against Yarmouth Town in Thurlow Nunn Division One North.
Adrian Ager gave the hosts the lead early in the second half before George Watts-Sturrock equalised with a superb free-kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to salvage a point.
Fakenham Town’s Ryan Curtis helped himself to a hat-trick as the Ghosts made hard work of seeing off Haverhill Borough in a seven-goal thriller at Clipbush Park.
Callum Brain was on target with Fakenham’s other goal after two late efforts from the visitors left the Ghosts sweating for the three points.
Having beaten Wisbech St Mary the week before, King’s Lynn Town Reserves suffered a surprise 4-0 reverse in the return fixture.
Two goals in either half saw off the young Linnets, who find themselves in the lower reaches of the table, with Jake Miller, Corey Kingston, Jordan Goult and Ryan Harnwell on target for the hosts.
