Ryston Runners trio make their mark at indoor championships
Ryston sprinters Si Carty and Robert MacQueen and shot putter Lucy Oakley headed to London's Lee Valley stadium to take part in the East of England Indoor Athletics Championships.
All three were back in action after winning gold in their respective age-groups at the Norfolk Indoor Championships the previous week.
Oakley, competing in the under-15 girls' shot put, launched the new weight of 3kg over 10 metres for the first time, with a distance of 10.05m.
This was good enough to take silver on the day, a great performance in her last competition before the Indoor National Championships.
Both sprinters performed well, with Carty (senior men) agonisingly close to a bronze medal in the 200m, finishing fourth in the final with 24.98.
MacQueen (under-17) was pleased to make the semi-finals, in a very high standard competition, in both the 60m and the 200m, just missing out on the 200m final.
He also ran close to his personal best in both events (7.53 in 60m and 24.1 in 200m).
In what was a much quieter weekend than normal, a number of Ryston Runners members were involved in the latest Lynn Parkrun in the Walks on Saturday morning.
As well as having a number of athletes competing, the club supplied a number of volunteers to help out in the icy and slippery conditions over the 5k distance.
