King's Lynn plays host to stock car and banger racing again after prolonged lay-off
Following a prolonged lay-off the 2021 stock car and banger season kicks off at the Adrian Flux Arena this coming weekend with two big events scheduled.
Tomorrow (5.30pm) sees the F1 stock cars in action with the V8 stock cars and ministox whilst bangers take centre stage on Sunday (1pm) with the 2L Banger War of the World Teams, 1500cc bangers and junior bangers.
Sunday’s meeting is the first of two events at Lynn which are raising awareness and funds in support of CALM – a men’s mental health charity.
Admission for both events is by advance ticket only with a reduced capacity due to Covid measures. Saturday’s meeting is already sold out but as we went to print some tickets do remain for Sunday which can be purchased at: www.stockcar-racing.co.uk
Heacham’s Willie Skoyles Jnr is in a race against time to get ready for the opening meeting of the season.
Skoyles put in some great races in last year’s shortened season and, although the former 2L stock car champion has yet to take the chequered flag in the big league, his displays saw a visible increase in confidence as he mixed it with the best of them.
Unfortunately the last meeting of the 2020 saw Skoyles suffer some expensive engine damage.
During the close season he has managed to source replacement parts for his race-tuned Chevrolet from the United States and these were due to arrive on Wednesday.
If everything goes to plan and following some sleepless nights in the garage, Skoyles aims to be out in front of his home crowd on Saturday and will be looking to take the chequered flag to give his army of fans plenty to cheer.
There will be a large number of local drivers in action on Sunday. The highlight of the day will be the 2L Banger War of the Worlds team event.
The Cooper brothers – Ross, Shaun and Jon will be in the famous Aftermath colours whilst Gavin Oakes makes a rare appearance and will be racing for Black’s Allstars.
Ashley Garrod is on loan to the Dover Boys whilst Kieran and Bradley Bowman along with Chris Horton will be racing for the Predators and Tom Reynolds will be in action for Team Glenfield.
The Aftermath and Predators are likely to be battling for honours in the Entertainer Points whilst a strong looking Dover Boys will be strong contenders for the main points title.
Ashley Garrod and Kieran Bowman will be in for a busy afternoon as they race in the 1500cc bangers as well as the 2L teams.
Other riders in action include Ashley’s brothers Rick and Terry Garrod together with father-and-son duo Russell and Callum Gill, Paul Lovick, Daniel Bitson and Sam Hildon.
Completing Sunday’s action will be the junior bangers where Colney Rayner will be making his debut in the formula.
Perry Williamson will be looking to continue the progress he made in the formula last year.
