Snettisham too strong for gallant Grimston in cup semi-final clash
Ladies from Grimston Cricket Club were in cup semi-final action last Wednesday evening when they hosted Snettisham.
The Snettisham skipper won the toss and put Grimston into bat, with opening pair C. Nichols and Clara facing some fierce bowling.
The next batting pair were L. Shepherdley and Dougie who made good progress against the Snettisham bowlers with several boundaries.
C. Pegg and B. Garnett were the real engine room of the Grimston batting line-up though, scoring 17 runs between them with a superb selection of shots.
C. Richardson and F. Hanna saw out the innings with another creditable performance. Grimston finished with a modest, but defendable total of 258.
Snettisham started brightly in reply, with their opening pair scoring 19 runs without loss.
The visitors found C. Pegg at her imperious best but managed to hold their nerve to see Snettisham over the line and into the final.
The standout bowler for Grimston was C. Pegg with a net run ratio of –1, whilst L. Shepherdley was the Honeypatch Flowers player-of-the-match after an all-round masterclass of batting, bowling, and fielding.
Captain Nichols was full of praise for Snettisham, saying: "This was probably our best all-round performance, but Snettisham were just too strong for us today.
"I'm proud of the team for going all the way to the semi-finals in our first-ever season, hopefully we can bring it home next year."
Grimston Ladies train on Mondays 6.30pm and 7.30pm at Grimston Cricket Ground and new players are made to feel very welcome.
