West Norfolk athletes well represented at George Munday 10k at Leverington
This weekend West Norfolk AC had several members taking part in the popular George Munday 10k.
Hosted by Three Counties Running Club, this popular 10k is a fast and flat road race situated in the Leverington area near Wisbech.
Not only is the race a fantastic event that more than 200 runners enjoy annually, but more importantly, it gives participants a chance to reflect before the race on the sacrifices of servicemen and women on Remembrance Sunday.
Each year before the race a two-minute silence takes place along with a moving service.
Cool temperatures and no wind made for perfect racing conditions and it made for some fantastic performances from WNAC athletes.
The first home for the club was Callum Stanforth, who enjoyed another PB since joining West Norfolk AC.
Stanforth finished fifth overall running a time of 32:53, breaking the sub-33 barrier for the first time.
Ryan Oakes also set a new PB, running a time of 35:05, beating his previous PB by more than a minute.
Lewis English was next for WNAC, running 35:32 and also claiming a new PB.
Arran Reeve wasn’t far behind as he continued his return to form, running 35:34 for 10k.
WNAC youngster Charlie Framingham continued his breakout year by winning the Under 18 male race, finishing with an impressive time of 36:03.
The PBs continued to roll in as Neil Gayton claimed a new personal best for 10k and broke the sub-40 milestone, running 39:24.
Digby Frammingham claimed first prize in the male 60-64 age category, running a strong time of 41:38.
Jamie Copeman kept the PB trend alive by running 42:06 and setting a new record for himself.
Lee Ricardson paced himself brilliantly to complete the 10k in 42:20.
The biggest PB of the day came courtesy of Hanley Angell, who destroyed his previous PB by more than four minutes, coming home with a time of 42:56.
Robert Gosnell finished well to beat the sub-45 mark, running a time of 44:27.
At King's Lynn Junior Parkrun, WNAC youngster Oliver Gayton ran a personal best of his own, running 7:57 and breaking the sub-eight barrier for the event.
Gayton not only regularly takes part at junior parkrun, but often volunteers for the event, making sure others can enjoy junior parkrun too.
On Saturday, a friend of the club Lucy Mcinerney hosted an event at Wisbech Parkrun.
The event was to raise awareness and to gain potential signups for Stem Cell donations.
The event was a total success with 95 people signing up for a procedure that can potentially save lives.
