King’s Lynn Stars boss Brady looks to seal speedway final spot by beating Ipswich Witches
King’s Lynn Stars team boss Alex Brady is looking to seal a league cup final spot by winning home and away against East Anglian rivals Ipswich Witches on Monday and Thursday respectively.
Lynn have won their away and home clashes with Peterborough, the latest being 47-43 last night thanks to a last heat decider 5-1 maximum win from skipper Josh Pickering and Niels-Kristian Iversen. Brady revealed the latter rode through the pain barrier.
The Minors & Brady Stars manager said: "Can't wait for Monday night. We know the equation now: if we go and win on Monday night we know we're in the final irrespective of what happens at Foxhall next Thursday.
"We want to get the job done as soon as we can and go to Foxhall with no pressure and need to remain professional Monday night and do what we've done in the last two meetings.
"Lewi (Kerr), Rich Lawson and Niels ride it around Foxhall really well, Richie Worrall rides it well, Josh (Pickering) also rides it well in his Championship days so we're really looking forward to next week."
Given Lynn have won the Colin Pratt Memorial Trophy, with a tribute also being paid to broadcaster Nigel Pearson before Thursday's meeting, he agreed it was an emotional night.
Brady commented: "I would say so. Both were big influences on the speedway world.
"Colin was a big part of speedway and Nigel very much as well.
"Colin moved to King’s Lynn and ironically I sold his property after what happened. He was a great person, and Nigel very much the same, so it is a bit emotional, yes.
"I'd have liked to have sewn it up a little bit earlier to be honest, to keep the heart rate down a bit.
"What a Heat 15, what a ride from Josh, and Niels rode through the pain barrier there.
"He didn't want to go out, to be honest he was in so much pain but that's the type of guy he is: a real leader, a real character.
"That's testament to the man he is, to go out and do what he did.
"Maybe a touch of whiplash in the neck perhaps, but riders are made of sterner stuff and Niels is certainly one of those as well.
"He fought through the pain barrier and delivered a fantastic result."
