King's Lynn Speedway boss hopes fans will return

King’s Lynn Stars team boss Peter Schroeck hopes fans will flock to speedway when it returns in three weeks’ time.

Schroeck believes British promoters have done their very best to put out a competitive product given current Covid travel restrictions which prevent many European-based riders from racing in the UK and wants supporters in general to respond in their droves.

It remains uncertain exactly how many fans will be allowed into the Adrian Flux Arena on Monday, May 17 at home to Ipswich in the Premiership season curtain-raiser.

This is also the date when widespread sporting and outdoor events are allowed with crowds nationally following the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Asked if this derby will provoke a good response given fans have been starved of action for 18 months, Schroeck replied: “I would like to think so.

“If people don’t want to support it, then obviously we’re wasting our time. We deserve to have a crack at it.

“Why not go now to meetings, go out and enjoy a bit of sport. If you don’t want to do that, then it’s a waste of time.

“The quality is there. I have heard there have been comments ‘like it’s downgrading our sport’ but that is a total disrespect to the riders who are racing.
