King’s Lynn keep up impressive form with big win over Birmingham Brummies

Lynn kept up their impressive form with an emphatic 57-33 win over Birmingham at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday evening.

The PSH Environmental Stars dominated proceedings from the off to make it three victories out of three against the Brummies, and the result was never in doubt.

Recent signing Jan Kvech again demonstrated exactly what he has brought to the club, and Benjamin Basso was also in excellent form with both riders unbeaten on track until Heat 15.

There were several solid contributions elsewhere and Ben Cook proved a tremendous guest for the injured Nicolai Klindt as he racked up 12 points.

Stars suffered an early blow when Kvech was timed out of Heat 1 after problems in the pits, but Basso averted any major issue by winning when the race did get under way, whilst Patryk Wojdylo came in to take third place ahead of Steve Worrall.

Wojdylo then controlled the reserves’ race with Anders Rowe holding third place ahead of Leon Flint, and after a shared Heat 3 the Stars added another 4-2 in the next with Rowe this time passing Flint, whilst Kvech took a clear win to kick off another terrific display.

Cook and Niels-Kristian Iversen made fast starts in Heat 5 to notch the first 5-1 of the night, and the lead was up to 12 points after the next race when the Brummies’ Piotr Pawlicki fell on the third bend as Basso won again.

Kvech then produced a great ride to go around Wiktor Lampart to win Heat 7, meaning Stars led 28-14 before a break was taken due to the setting sun.

After a third Basso victory in a shared Heat 8, it was Cook’s turn to come from the back in the next as he moved inside Tom Brennan with Iversen third for another 4-2.

And the points were as good as safe when Iversen and Basso combined for a clear 5-1 in Heat 10, out-trapping Sedgmen and Lampart to put the Stars 20 points to the good.

Kvech reeled off his third win in Heat 11 in another Lynn 4-2 as Brennan threw a chain for the Brummies, a fate which would befall him again two races later with Kvech and Basso this time combining over Worrall to take the Stars above the 50-point mark.

There had been signs of improvement from Pawlicki in a shared Heat 12, and the visitors’ Polish star came close to Wojdylo in Heat 14 – although few probably expected him to defeat the Stars’ top two in the finale.

However, that was what happened as Basso’s hopes of a paid maximum were ended with a last place, whilst Kvech – looking for a fifth straight win – led until the final corner before Pawlicki cleverly switched through on the inside.

That was a minor irritation, though, at the end of another strong night for the Stars who once again showed what a unit they are becoming even despite their major absences.

Manager Rob Lyon said: “It was a great performance. We covered for the No.1 position really well, and we were dominant all the way through, so I’m very pleased with that.

“Benjamin was superb for us tonight, and Jan is a bright, shining light in the whole situation we’re faced with.

“For a rider who’s 22 years old, he looks like he’s been riding here for years. He’s taken to it very well, and he is very calm and mature on the bike. We just need to find two more like him!

“I knew Ben Cook would be good value, he likes this place and he’s kicked on this year again as we saw tonight, so I was always confident he would be a good guest for us.”

With a break next week for the FIM Speedway of Nations, Stars are back in action on Monday, July 15 when they host Leicester at the Adrian Flux Arena.
