King’s Lynn Stars skipper's reaction to winning speedway Premiership home opener vs Belle Vue Aces
Skipper Josh Pickering says King’s Lynn Stars "are just happy to put on a show for the fans" after winning their Premiership campaign home opener last night.
He top-scored with 12+1 points during The Minors & Brady Stars' 50-40 success over visitors Belle Vue.
The Aces led early on and were almost neck and neck with Lynn in the remainder of the first half. But Pickering found his best form and his troops pulled away.
The Australian said: "It was a great result in the end for the boys.
"It was quite a bit difficult early on. The track was a bit little different to what we've been used to in the last few weeks but at the same time we've haven't been here for three weeks.
"We can only go with what usually works and for me it wasn't working so I had to make a couple of changes and got going in the end."
The Aussie was soon back to his best form, clearly beating the likes of Brady Kurtz and Warsaw GP winner Max Fricke.
He added: "It does make it feel a lot better and when you're riding the boards it echoes so you can hear riders regardless even when they are quite a far way back.
"You can get it echoing but you definitely know when someone's on your tail also. Tonight we won as a team.
"There will be a couple of boys disappointed with their performance but at the end of the day if they didn't get their three or four points, that sways it to the other team and then they end up getting a league point which we didn't want them to do.
"Everyone chips in and we win and lose as a team and it was very fortunate that we won tonight."
On his own form, he added: "It's always been coming, and it's just happening.
"For me right now, it's finishing here in 15 minutes and heading up to Edinburgh and getting there at 4 o'clock in the morning, getting to sleep for a few hours, wake up and wash the bike and race tomorrow night.
"It's full-on and busy but it's what we love and if we didn't love it we wouldn't do it.
"We were just happy we could put on a show for the fans. I'm just stoked that King's Lynn are winning."
