UPDATE: King’s Lynn Stars speedway rider Jack Thomas suffers broken wrists and club waits for Thomas Jorgensen injury news

King’s Lynn Stars team boss Alex Brady this morning was awaiting an injury prognosis on speedway rider Thomas Jorgensen after learning that Jack Thomas is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.

Spills on the continent meant Jorgensen missed last night's Premiership defeat to leaders Ipswich, while fellow Dane Niels-Kristian Iversen was ruled out of the derby clash with a bout of food poisoning.

Reserve racer Thomas was withdrawn after crashing in his second ride, Heat 4, versus the Witches, and it was confirmed this morning that he suffered two broken wrists.

On Thomas, Brady said: "He's going to go to hospital for a scan.

"Jack winded himself quite badly and he hit himself in the region no man ever should and he also hurt his wrists, both of them, so there's a big concern at the moment.

"He's going to get those scanned and fingers crossed it's okay but they swelled up pretty quickly."

Brady told the Lynn News about Danish rider Jorgensen: "He got injured in Poland last week and he aggravated it in Denmark yesterday. They actually were talking about not flying him home."

He added that the build-up for Thursday's derby – Lynn's first home loss of the 2022 season – was a nightmare: "Losing Jack so early on, and the back-up stuff yesterday with Niels and Thomas with injury and illness, but hopefully by the time two weeks rolls around they'll be back fit and fighting for us.

"What we've had in the last 24 to 36 hours is soul-destroying.

"In this last 24 hours, anything that could go, did go wrong.

"It won't affect team spirit. We battled hard.

"Certain riders didn't perform as they'd like to but nobody's let anyone down. We win as a team and lose as a team whatever happens.

"Richie (Worrall, paid 15 points) had his night of the season so far for us – brilliant; other riders didn't do that for us but it doesn't matter – it's all about the collective, the unit.

"I'll probably be in a dark room tonight for about an hour, maybe me and my friend Jack Daniel, that's why I'm confident we'll put it right in a fortnight, that's for sure."

Lynn remain in fifth spot and next in the league on June host fourth place Sheffield Tigers, who are four points ahead.
