Sutton Bridge youngsters celebrate successful season on the pitch
Sutton Bridge Under-12s celebrated a successful season with their first presentation evening since the coronavirus pandemic.
The event was well attended by players, parents, club officials and sponsors who were able to look back on a terrific term for the side.
After being heavily beaten in previous seasons, the side finished their maiden campaign in Division Two of the Mid-Norfolk Youth League as runners-up.
They had started the season with a 10-match unbeaten run and also boasted the league’s top scorer in Olly Smith who netted 50 goals.
Vice-chairman David Sones said: “It was a huge achievement for the team.
“They exceeded all expectations through hard work and dedication by the players and coaches.”
Sutton’s success continued after the league campaign had finished as they took part in an end of season tournament.
They went through to the final unbeaten and without conceding a goal where they were eventually defeated by the Mid-Norfolk League Division One champions Clenchwarton.
Sones added: “I would like to thank all the parents and children who turn up every week to training and match days in every type of weather imaginable.
“The club has achieved more than whatever could have been asked and we are looking forward to moving from nine-a-side to 11-a-side for next season.
“With some new additions who knows what could be achieved, but we always know one thing which is the biggest ethos at this club that all the players have a happy face and that whatever the result they enjoy playing for Sutton Bridge.”
The club would also like to thank local businesses who donated more than 60 raffle prizes for the presentation night which helped raise around £500.
Sponsorship was also gratefully received from James Crampton Transport (playing kit), Bakkavor Sutton Bridge (full training kit), Salters Transport (tracksuits) and MK Andrews (wet/cold weather jackets).
Sones concluded: “We are very lucky to have found the sponsorship and it is an ever evolving item for our teams at Sutton Bridge.
“If there are any sponsors that would like to help in the future, we have a Facebook page where you could leave a post and we would get back to you.”
