King’s Lynn boss praises solid Tamworth defence ahead of National League North clash live on TNT Sports

King's Lynn Town boss Adam Lakeland believes Tamworth's mean defensive record is an example for any team wanting to win the league.

The Lambs arrive at The Walks for tomorrow's lunchtime TNT Sports-televised clash (12.30pm) having conceded just 21 goals in their 39 matches so far this campaign.

Lakeland believes that the Lambs' brilliant record at the back is the blueprint for any team wanting to challenge for the title.

"First and foremost, to get results in this league you have to be defensively organised and you only have to look at the team that's going to win the league, Tamworth," he said.

"I think they've had nine clean sheets on the bounce at one stage - and any team that generally is up near the top end of leagues, they defend well to keep clean sheets.

"They concede one at most and they're not shipping two and three all of the time. It's hard to win games of football if you concede that many goals.

"Tamworth are very effective at the way they play. They play to their strengths, they maximise them and they're going to go up again as champions and every credit to them because being organised, being hard to beat, being gritty, I think it's a bit of a dying art.

"People have just become obsessed with rolling it out in your six-yard box and overplaying in areas where it's higher risk and you can lose the ball.

"If it works, it looks great, but if it doesn't you can get hurt, and Tamworth are very effective at the way that they play.

"But they also play good football when they get it into the right areas of the pitch and they're a threat with the long throw.

"They are very good at set plays and they don't concede many goals, so I think any team that's going to go out of this league as champions, I think you can learn a lot from any of them.

"I think it's a game we can go into and enjoy a little bit more with less pressure on us."

A remarkable run of nine games unbeaten has lifted Lynn out of the relegation zone and up to 16th in the National League North table.

It will be the first time Lynn have been on live TV since their second-round FA Cup tie against Stevenage last season.

And they will be keen to maintain their fine recent form against their old foes in front of the cameras.

"I think for the club it's brilliant exposure," the Lynn boss said.

"For the players to be on TV, it's a great opportunity for them and they will naturally want to perform well.

"Their mates who don't come to the game will probably be watching, and they won't want to be getting messages saying they were poor."

Former Linnets and Tamworth manager Gary Mills is due to be one of the pundits leading the coverage on TNT Sports.
