Ward, Skinner and Forshaw net as King's Lynn Ladies knock out Histon Ladies from league cup

Lynn Ladies continued their fine start to the season with a fine 3-1 win at Histon Ladies in the league cup on Sunday.

The ladies again had to shuffle their resources with striker Tiff Forshaw being used in a defensive position with Lynn struggling to field recognised defenders.

Lynn made the worst possible start when keeper Byrony Robinson’s pass was intercepted by the home side’s winger who put the ball into an empty net from 18 yards.

The visitors were stung by this early setback and worked hard to get themselves level with 36 minutes on the clock as Katie Ward took full advantage of the home keeper's fumble to turn the ball home for the levelling goal.

It got better for Lynn just before the break when following some good work from Emma Corbyn, Rachel Skinner stabbed home her first goal of the season.

The visitors made a change at the break as Ellie Prentice replaced Robinson in the Lynn goal.

The Linnets were now the better team with Oksana Imanalijeva, Jodie Hopkins, Becky Russell and Ward linking impressively, creating problems to Histon’s left hand side.

Another change saw Lexie Waters come on for her debut which allowed Forshaw to move into her more favoured position.

Town made the game safe when Ward won the ball and fed Hopkins who in turn picked out Forshaw in the box who turned well despite the attention of the home defence and got a shot away which ended up in the net with the aid of the inside of the far post.

Russell came close to extending the lead further with a stunning volley from the edge of the box.
