West Norfolk youngsters show great resilience in Shelford comeback victory
In a thrilling display of resilience and teamwork,under-15 players from West Norfolk Rugby Club pulled off an extraordinary comeback to secure a 21-29 victory against Shelford away in a chilly encounter on Sunday morning.
The West Norfolk squad faced adversity from the start, as illnesses left them with only 15 players and no substitutes.
Despite the setback, the boys eagerly travelled the long ride to Shelford in Cambridge, ready for the challenge ahead.
However, the day took an unexpected turn when an air ambulance had to land on the pitch, causing a 40-minute delay due to a injury in another game.
Undeterred by the delay, the West Norfolk boys kept warm by engaging in impromptu training sessions around the helicopter. Once the game finally started, the initial moments saw a spirited start by West Norfolk.
However, Shelford, a formidable and well-drilled opponent, proved their mettle, leading 21-5 at half=time.
Compounding the challenges, West Norfolk had lost a key player to a precautionary measure after a head injury.
The second half witnessed a remarkable turnaround as West Norfolk displayed unwavering team spirit, courage, and strength. Quickly scoring a try, the team's confidence soared.
With calculated drives and an immense collective effort from every player, West Norfolk continued to pile on the pressure.
