King’s Lynn boss wants improvement from top to bottom after ending National League North season on a losing note
King's Lynn Town boss Adam Lakeland says the club needs to be better from top to bottom after seeing his side end the National League North season on a losing note.
The Linnets lost 3-0 to Spennymoor on Saturday to finish the campaign in 18th place, five points ahead of Blyth Spartans, who finished in the final relegation place.
“We have to be better, for sure - the whole club, top to bottom,” admitted Lakeland after the final whistle.
“It's a difficult situation that we came into and the initial was just to stay in the division.
"I would have liked to have done it earlier and sooner than we did, but the players deserve a lot of credit for their efforts for the way that we've managed to turn it around because I think at the turn of the year we looked like we were in big, big trouble and we managed to put a decent run together.
“From my side, disappointed that we've ended the season on back-to-back defeats. We haven't lost too many games in 2024.
“But the hard work started as soon as we knew we were safe in terms of looking for next season because we need to strengthen in certain areas and we need to make sure that next year we're not in this situation again.”
After securing their National League North safety last Saturday it was a poor end to a poor season for Adam Lakeland’s men.
Rob Ramshaw gave the home team a seventh-minute lead, Glen Taylor made it 2-0 on the hour and Will Harris wrapped up the scoring in the 90th minute.
"I thought we were poor,” said Lakeland.
“The goals that we gave away were too soft. The first one’s poor because we know that Ramshaw makes those runs from deep, got in another couple of times with runners in the first half.
“We had a couple of good opportunities at 1-0 and we looked okay at times in possession of the ball in the first half. Second half we come out and conceded a soft second goal and the game just petered out really.
“It was quite a passive performance by us, quite a way off what we have been. We can't argue with the result today.”
