'We will race if we can in 2020', speedway bosses insist
The body which represents the promoters of British speedway has insisted racing will take place in Britain this summer, if the coronavirus crisis improves sufficiently.
No racing will take place until at least the middle of June under current restrictions.
However, with the England and Wales Cricket Board announcing on Friday that all professional competition will be delayed until at least July 1, it is likely that suspension will be extended.
But, following a conference call last Tuesday, the board of directors at the British Speedway Promoters Ltd say they are still working towards starting the 2020 campaign as soon as they can..
Vice-chairman Damien Bates said: “We had a productive conversation and we all agreed we remain 100 per cent committed to putting on a season this year at the first available opportunity.
“If it’s July, August or whenever it may be, we are determined to stage racing should the government rules allow us to do so.”
