King's Lynn club athlete Nathan Protheroe jumps to eastern crown with Team Norfolk





This week saw Team Norfolk in action in the Eastern Young Athletes League match at Cambridge.

This features athletes from West Norfolk, Ryston Runners, Great Yarmouth, Dereham and Thetford in a composite team that finished overall sixth.

Under-17 men – Alfie Williams was in his usual good form in the shot, winning with 14.95m. His other results were: discus, 3rd (33.92m). high jump 3rd (1.70m).

Other results: Arthur Knight – hammer, 2nd (40.88m), discus B string, 1st (33.20m).

U13 girls – Sophie Garrett 800m, 5th (3m22.5); long jump, non scorer (2.90m). 200m, non scorer (36.7sec). Betty Schwarz long jump, non scorer (2.77m). 800m, non scorer (3m37.1)

U15 girls – Holly Lawrence 300m, 3rd (47.8sec). 800m, 5th (2m38.8). Long jump, 4th (3.91m)

U17 women – Amber Scott – 100m A string, 4th (13.6sec). Long jump B string, 1st (4.66m). Javelin A string, 4th (17.66m). Ruby Schwarz – 100m B string, 3rd (14.2sec). Long jump non scorer (3.77m)

Millie Bastian – 200m B string 3rd (28.6sec). Javelin B string, 3rd (13.85m). Long jump, non scorer (4.18m). Thank you to all the athletes, parents and officials who helped out on the day.

• At the Eastern Counties Championships on the previous Sunday, also at Cambridge, U20’s athlete Nathan Protheroe had a fantastic long jump competition, taking the gold medal and was crowned Eastern Counties champion.

Protheroe’s best jump after the first three jumps was 6:40m and had him sitting in second place. First place was 6.46m until the sixth and last jump when Nathan really went for it and leaped to 6.63m, a new personal best and the gold medal in a fantastic achievement.

Second claim athlete James Greenhalgh also had a great day, taking the gold medal in the 400m hurdles (56.19sec).
