West Norfolk AC athletes Lucy Koenigsberger and Alfie Williams hit qualifying mark for England Schools Championships

West Norfolk AC athletes Lucy Koenigsberger and Alfie Williams both hit the qualifying standard for county selection for England Schools Championships at last weekend’s Norfolk County Schools Championships in dismal conditions at UEA Norwich.

Senior Girl, Lucy Koenigsberger threw 43.87m in the Hammer, winning gold.

This was a new personal best (PB) and County Schools record. Lucy now holds all age group county schools records for the Hammer and will be up for selection in what will be her fifth successive England Schools Championships.

Intermediate boys athlete Alfie Williams threw 14.10m in the Shot Put, winning gold, and will also be up for selection to the England event.

This will be Alfie’s third successive time if selected. Alfie also won silver in the Discus with a 32.25m throw.

Arthur Knight won a gold medal and threw a PB of 44.50m in the Intermediate Boys Hammer throw. Arthur also took bronze in the Discus with a 28.38m throw.

Junior Boy Christian Tansey won gold in the 100m winning his heat and the final with a 12.2sec run. Christian was declared second but shared the time with the winner (24.1 sec) in a close fought 200m final taking the silver medal.

Charlie Williams won gold in the Senior Boys Discus (31.89m) and took bronze in the Shot (9.89m).

Intermediate Boys age group: Joe Williams competed in the Long Jump, (5.14m), finishing 5th; plus Triple Jump, (9.74m) finishing 7th.

Rory Sewell competed in the Javelin (22.96m) finishing 4th.

Intermediate girls age group: Bethany Barrett ran well in the 80m Hurdles (13.7sec) finishing 2nd. In the 200m finishing 5th (30.1sec).

Arabella Gingell 1500m, (5m31.9 Dec) finishing 5th.

West Norfolk AC also had athletes competing in the Cambridgeshire Schools event at Peterborough.

Junior girl, Holly Lawrence, competing for Ely ran in the 800m (2m45.5sec) finishing 5th. Long Jump (4.01m) 4th.

Intermediate Girls athletes

Abby Watson, has a good day in the High Jump (1.45m) finishing 2nd and equalling her personal best. In the 300m was 3rd (47.3sec).

Millie Bastian, ran a new PB in the 200m (29.6) finishing 6th. In the Triple Jump, (8.93m) 4th.

Poppy Tunmore ran in 800m (2m42.2sec) finishing 6th. Abbie, Millie and Poppy were part of the Ely 4x100m relay team, finishing 2nd.

A thank-you to all the officials and parent helpers for helping to make the day happen.

• The Marham Summer Special 10K and Duathlon took place around the airfield perimeter course on Sunday.

The run/ride was a flat, fast circuit, on paved surfaces free of traffic and took in much interesting scenery.

West Norfolk athlete Katrina Wasteney had a great run and finished as 2nd place female athlete, finishing in a time of 45m 23sec.

Rick Bailey ran 52m 18sec as the 30th male athlete home.
