Sixteen titles scooped at Keith Ward and County Indoor Athletics Championships




Club records were smashed and no fewer than 16 county titles were picked up by West Norfolk Athletic Club members at the Keith Ward and County Indoor Athletics Championships.

The stand-out performances at Lynnsport this year came from Alfie Williams, Lily Edwards, Christian Tansey, Charlie Broad and Nathan Protheroe.

Under-17 athlete Alfie Williams showed he means business again this year with medals in all three events.

Williams beat a 17-year-old county record and his own club record in the shot to win gold with a 14.04 metre effort.

Alfie then equalled the club high jump record, that had stood since 1995, to win another gold with a 1.70m jump.

Later in the day, Williams won county bronze in the 60m final and ran a personal best time of 7.8sec.

Lily Edwards, in her first event since moving up to the under-20 women's age category, won gold in the 60m (IPC) T20 event in 3.93 sec.

Throwing the new weight of 4kg in the shot, Edwards won gold with a personal best distance of 3.93m. She finished a fantastic day with 2.12m to take silver in the long jump.

Under-15 boys' newcomer Christian Tansey won gold in the long jump, leaping to 4.76m, and set a new club record time of 7.7sec in a hard-fought 60m final for silver.

Under-11 boy Charlie Broad claimed county titles in a closely-contested 60m race with a 9.8sec win and also leapt to gold in the long jump with 3.52m.

Nathan Protheroe took top spots in the under-20 men’s 60m hurdles in 9.3sec and the long jump, jumping 5.69m before finishing the day with joint bronze in the 60m flat final in 7.7sec.

In the Under-17 men Ben Richardson won gold in the 60 hurdles (10.4sec) and followed it up with silver in the high jump (1.55m).

Charlie Williams (under-20 men) won gold and set a PB at the new 6kg shot weight with 11.09m and won joint bronze in the 60m with 7.7sec.

Michaela Raine won the under-20 women’s 60m title in 8.5sec, while Rahim Benson took gold in the long jump with 6.19m and bronze in the 60m with 7.6sec (PB).

Senior man Cameron Ross won gold in the 60m (IPC) T20 event in 8.6sec and was fourth in the long jump, 4.09m.

Wesley Houghton claimed gold in the 60m (IPC) T11 event with help from his running guide Aaron Raine in a time of 9.3sec.

Under-15 girl Lucy Oakley (Ryston & West Norfolk AC) took gold in the shot with 9.94m, while U15G Rose Fairhurst (Conac), U17W Asher Soanes (Thetford AC) and U15G Meg Willis (Conac), who all train regularly with WNAC, all either achieved medals or county titles.

Under-13 Boys: Thomas O'Neill, long jump 3rd 3.38m and 60m ht2 3rd 9.7; Charlie Tunmore, shot 2nd 5.77m, long jump 6th 3.21m; Alfie Bone,long jump 3rd 3.04m.

Under-13 Girls: Millie Eveson long jump 2.31m, 60m ht3 3rd 10.4sec; Sophie Garrett long jump 9th 2.64m, 60m ht1 3rd 10.4sec; Jennifer Wood long jump 11th 2.46m, 60m hurdles 6th 12.8sec; Betty Schwarz, 60m ht1 5th 11.2sec.

Under-15 Girls: Annabel Bastian shot 4th 4.93m, long jump 6th 3.21m; Holly Lawrence long jump 4th 3.78m, 60m ht1 4th 9.4sec.

Under-17 Men: Joseph Williams 60m 5th 8.0sec, long jump 3rd 4.94m, triple jump 3rd 10.19m.

Under-17 Women: Abby Watson 3rd high jump 1.40m; Amber Scott shot 5th 8.20m, 60m 4th 8.7sec, long jump 7th 4.34m; Millie Bastian long jump 8th 4.13m, 60m ht2 3rd 9.3sec; Elizabeth Wood high jump 5th 1.30m, long jump 9th 4.01m, 60m hurdles ht2 3rd 11.1sec; Ruby Schwarz long jump 10th 3.59m, 60m ht3 4th 9.3sec.

Senior Men: James Greenhalgh 60m 2nd 7.6sec; Lee Tunmore, 60m (Masters) 4th 9.0sec, shot 4th 7.42m, high jump 6th 1.35m; Neil Watson high jump 5th 1.40m; Ben Collison long jump 5th 3.86m; Jack Pishorn shot 5th 5.85m; Robert Vincent 60m (Masters) 3rd 8.8sec.

Senior Women: Lucy Edwards long jump 3rd 4.52m, 60m 4th 8.9sec.
