Champagne moment for youngster at two-litre banger Tarmac World Final in Birmingham

West Norfolk driver Callum Gill, 21, was on top of he world after winning the two-litre banger Tarmac World Final at Birmingham on Saturday night.

What made Gill’s victory even more remarkable was that last Saturday was the first time he had ever competed in a two-litre banger.

Gill has had a fantastic few seasons in the national bangers and has picked up victories in unlimited bangers, 1500cc bangers and micro bangers.

He has avoided the two-litre bangers so far though – but even whilst not competing in this formula he is still the current leader in the Trackstar national points chart.

It was this lofty position in the points which saw him seeded into the two-litre banger World Final at Birmingham and, after borrowing a car, he showed that he is as quick in this as he is the other disciplines of racing as he roared to success.

His success has now earned the right to paint his roof gold for the next 12 months.

Gill will be back in action at his home track when he races for Team Extreme as part of the unlimited banger War of the Worlds which takes place at Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena tomorrow (5.30pm).

It promises to be a big night of national banger team racing with not one but two team competitions taking place with the 1500cc banger East Anglian teams taking place as well as the unlimited War of the Worlds.

Team Extreme are one of the pre-meeting favourites for the title and are made up of a cosmopolitan line-up of top banger stars throughout the UK.

As well as Gill, their line-up includes top South West star Jonny James, Barrow in Furness’s Joe Morgan, Stoke’s Tommy West and Sheffield’s Scott Gough.

The team have been victorious in the unlimited banger Icebreaker team competition at Lynn for the past two seasons, but they have yet to taste success in the War of the Worlds with a third place finish in the 2017 event being their best finish to date.

But with a very strong and experienced team entered this time, they are expected to be a serious challenger for the main honours.

There are several local drivers involved in the 1500 East Anglian teams with the Predators line-up including Kieran Bowman, Kieran Woods, Robert Betts and Ashley Garrod.

Former World Champion Dave Cox, along with son Brett, will be part of Cruncher’s Crew whilst Brett Judge and Ryley Freestone make up part of the Allsorts team and Paul Lovick, who was a race winner in the 1500cc bangers last time out, is part of STB.

Completing the action are the junior bangers where points leader Harry Cobb will be racing under the flashing lights of Superstar for the first time since the new grades came into effect at Lynn this year.

Robbie Dillon will also take to the track under a new grade having moved up to the yellows.
