West Norfolk Ladies and Colts enjoy Diss friendly

Following the men's match on Saturday, rugby action continued on Sunday as Diss brought both their Ladies’ and Colts’ teams to West Norfolk.

The Ladies started the day taking to the pitch for the first time since March, playing an adapted form of the game created to minimise contact.

With new players making their debut for West and the team having never played a Ready4Rugby match, it was a case of learning on the job.

But West Ladies’ quickly settled in with Tiffany Turner scoring the first try within minutes of kick off.

Spirits were high as the ball moved fluidly through the hands of the team with further tries from Lucy Shaw, Danielle Barrett (2) and captain Amber Wadlow.

In the final quarter the flowing team work continued which allowed Sarah Hodgson to break through the Diss defensive line to pass to Lucy Parrish who scored in the far corner.

Diss Ladies never gave up and in the last 15 minutes of the match managed to turn their fighting spirit into two back to back tries. Both sides enjoyed being back on the pitch and are looking forward to a return fixture in January.

The match ended 13-2 to West Norfolk. Additonal try scorers were Tally Read (3), Sarah Hodgson (2) and Tiffany Turner (2). Player of the Match was Danielle Barrett who made her debut for the team.

Next on the pitch was the Colts’ team made up of players from Under 16 to Under 18 level.

Their first-ever fixture was played against a well structured, physical Diss side.

The match ended in a 25-7 loss for West, but this by no means reflected the overall performance by the team. It was a great game to watch and the team showed their growing potential.

Club Captain Damien Fish said: “I am happy with the result and we are looking forward to 2021. The future of West Norfolk is looking strong.”
