Crusaders U18s 19 West Norfolk U18s 17

Since contact fixtures were allowed from the start of May, this was West Norfolk under-18s' third match.

This week they were away again, this time against Crusaders.

West kicked off and the Crusaders backs lost possession of the ball on their five-metre line.

The visitors successfully kept the pressure on, attempting to reach the try line three times, before under-16 player Jack Harvey picked the ball from the back of the ruck to drive over to score an unconverted try.

The next 20 minutes were a battle of both teams' strong set of forwards, with neither team gaining an advantage.

Crusaders managed to gain an advantage and break into West's 22 and carried on pushing before scoring a converted try to go two points in front.

Not putting their heads down, West pushed Crusaders hard again from the restart, gaining the advantage and getting into Crusaders 22.

Close to the five-metre line, fly- half Jamie Hickling received a pass from scrum-half Ed Mellor and managed to find a gap in the home back line and dive over the line, converted by full-back Josh Burgess, to give West a 12-7 lead at the break.

Unfortunately, whilst defending a ruck on their five-metre line, a West player received a yellow card for an unintentional incident in the ruck. Crusaders took full advantage to register two tries and a conversion in quick succession.

Back up to 15 players West pushed back into Crusaders 22. Captain Luis Costa received a great pass from Rory Gagen to step pass two players and score.

Unfortunately this wasn’t converted and West lost 19-17 in a close game.

On Sunday, West host Spalding at Gatehouse Lane, kick off at 12.30pm.
